Programs / LTI

Build the capability to lead laboratory transformation.

Improvement efforts often fail because capability was never built.

LTI is a structured, applied capability program that helps laboratory professionals improve laboratory performance through structured transformation and operational improvement.

The Challenge

The gap between knowing and doing.

Most laboratory professionals understand that things need to improve. The challenge is not awareness. It is having the structured capability to turn that understanding into action.

01

Knowing what should change, but not how to start

Laboratories often recognize the need for transformation but lack a structured method to move from diagnosis to action.

02

Competing priorities and limited internal capacity

Day-to-day operational demands leave little room for the focused work that meaningful improvement requires.

03

Cross-functional complexity

Laboratory transformation rarely sits within a single team. It requires coordination across quality, operations, management, and technical functions.

04

Generic training that does not transfer

Traditional courses build awareness but not the applied capability needed to drive change in a specific laboratory environment.

In practice

In a high-volume automated chemistry laboratory, variability in pre- and post-analytical workflows created persistent processing delays. Once the team developed the capability to map workflows, identify constraints, and redesign operations around measured bottlenecks, performance stabilized and efficiency gains justified the investment within months.

Our Approach

A capability journey, not a course.

LTI is not generic education. It is a structured capability journey that focuses on laboratory transformation, operational performance, and workflow improvement. Every element is designed to build practical, transferable capability, not just awareness.

All programs are aligned to the LTS Impact Framework (Discovery, Roadmap, Implementation, Sustain). This builds capability for sustained laboratory performance improvement.

Structured method

A clear framework that guides participants from diagnosis through to implementation.

Facilitated application

Expert-guided sessions where participants apply tools to real laboratory scenarios.

Workplace relevance

Every component is linked to the participant’s own laboratory environment.

In practice

In a biochemical genetics laboratory, fragmented workflows limited the ability to manage increasing demand. By developing the capability to analyze and harmonize processes, the team reduced turnaround time significantly while maintaining quality and consistency across screening activities.

LTI has been independently reviewed for alignment with established laboratory Quality Management System principles.

The LTS Impact Framework underpinning LTI has been systematically mapped across leading laboratory quality and accreditation frameworks, including ISO 15189, ISO/IEC 17025, CAP, and OECD GLP.

Quality systems define the requirements and disciplines laboratories work within. LTI builds the improvement capability needed to translate them into sustained performance.

“This tool is uniquely placed to deliver this concept and is an invaluable aid in achieving genuine continuous improvement and improving the quality of laboratory services.”

Program Structure

How LTI is delivered.

LTI follows a structured sequence, from foundational learning through facilitated application to workplace transfer and review.

01

Foundation

Learning Components

Core frameworks, transformation methodology, and diagnostic tools. Participants build a shared language and structured understanding of laboratory improvement.

02

Application

Workshop & Classroom

Facilitated sessions where participants apply frameworks to real scenarios. Guided practice with peer collaboration and expert facilitation.

03

Transfer

Workplace Component

Participants work on live issues in their own laboratory environment. Structured application with milestone checkpoints and facilitator support.

04

Integration

Milestones & Review

Progress review, outcome documentation, and pathway to continued development. Clear evidence of capability built and value delivered.

Program Format

How participation works.

  • Delivered in focused cohorts (typically 10–15 participants)

  • 5-day, classroom-based program with active facilitation
  • Supported by coaching and guidance for real-world application
  • Designed for teams, not individuals

  • Structured to translate directly into operational improvement

“Transformation is
not an event. It is a capability”.

André brings decades of experience in laboratory management consulting, instructional design, and organizational transformation across multiple countries and healthcare systems. He is the architect behind LabVine’s flagship capability programs, the Laboratory Transformation and Improvement (LTI) course and the Laboratory Management in Practice (LMIP) program, both of which he has developed from the ground up and delivered internationally to laboratory and vendor teams.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, an International Diploma in Teaching and Training, and a Management Advanced Programme qualification from Wits Business School. Registered with the South African Board for People Practices and an ICF Associate Certified Coach (ACC). His facilitation approach is action-oriented and process-driven, helping laboratory professionals in diverse regulatory and resource environments convert capability into measurable performance and sustainable results.

Real-World Application

Where learning becomes action.

The workplace component is what makes LTI different from traditional training. Participants do not just learn about transformation. They begin doing it.

  • Work on live laboratory issues

Participants identify and work on real challenges in their own laboratory environment, applying the frameworks and tools from the program.

  • Structured milestone checkpoints

Regular review points ensure progress, provide facilitator support, and keep the workplace component on track.

  • Team and sponsor involvement

Where relevant, the program involves team members and organizational sponsors to strengthen transfer and build broader capability.

  • Documented outcomes

Participants document what they have achieved, creating a clear record of capability built and value delivered.

In practice

In a regional laboratory network, specimen referral processes across multiple sites led to inefficiencies and rejection risks. Once the team developed the capability to analyze system-wide workflows and redesign referral pathways, coordination improved, and operational failures were reduced.

What happens next

Participants leave with a clear starting point, not just understanding.

In most cases, teams begin applying improvements within days, using their own operational data and context.
